History Vision Statement
The National Curriculum for Primary History says that “A high-quality history education will help pupils gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. It should inspire pupils’ curiosity to know more about the past.”
At Pinfold Primary, we belive that the teaching of history provides pupils with not only an understanding of the past, but also with a curiosity to find out more. It is our job to nurture this curiosity and ignite an excitement for our pupils when learning about past lives and experiences. We seek to broaden children's real-life experiences both inside and outside of school through educational visits, visitors, exploration and discovery.
Aims and objectives:
- To arouse interest in the past and help pupils to understand the present in the context of the past.
- To help give pupils a sense of identity and an understanding of their own cultural roots and shared inheritances.
- To learn about the major issues and events in the history of our country and of the world and to contribute to pupils knowledge and understanding of the countries and cultures.
- To understand the nature of evidence by emphasising history as a process of enquiry and by developing the range of skills required to interpret primary and secondary sources.
